Considered as one of the pioneers of the New Waves of British Heavy Metal, Iron Maiden is a band of success. Formed in 1975 by Steve Harris, it has a total of thirty-six albums, comprising fifteen studio albums, ten live albums, four EPs, and seven compilations (see more here). I’ve heard them earlier, but just had a chance to listen to “Live After Death”, their live album which was performed at Long Beach Arena in 1985. It was not easy to get their records back then in Indonesia since the price would be too much for a high school student like me :). Luckily, I got this live record from a friend.
Twelve years later, I got a chance to watch them live. A great performance with the three great guitarists – Dave Murray, Janick Gers, and Adrian Smith (who was back on reunion in 1999), the main songwriter and bassist – Steve Harris, a unique and happy drummer – Nicko McBrain, and a pilot of Ed Force One (Iron Maiden’s Official Airplane used on Tour) and the lead vocalist – Bruce Dickinson (who was back on reunion in 1999).
You might want to listen to one of their epic songs, Hallowed be Thy Name (HD quality). This song tells about a man’s feeling before he is sent to face the gallows.

Here are some photos taken during the concert. They are not of a good quality as they were taken using a pocket camera (professional camera was not allowed). The show itself was superb. They are not young, but still they performed very good. In my opinion, it’s some missing monumental songs, like Aces High, Sanctuary, Heaven Can Wait, Can I Play with Madness, Man on the Edge or Transylvania but it is quite understandable since they had to perform newer songs taken from their new album that time, “The Final Frontier.”
