Published in Routledge and now available in Taylor & Francis.
I’d like to thank my co-author, Teh Finita Dewi, for this. We are glad to share this important piece of “Teaching English and Technology” in the underrepresented context, like Indonesia.
This chapter covers a critical review of the interrelationships between English language teaching and technology within the framework of Technological Pedagogical and Content Knowledge (TPACK), emphasizing the learning context in Indonesia. It examines the increased utilization of technology in English language teaching (ELT) and highlights its emerging research on technology use in the classrooms.
Five central themes are identified as crucial in the discourse on teaching English with technology:
– Teachers’ perceptions toward TPACK
– Their understanding of TPACK
– Their ability with technology integration
– Practical implementation of TPACK, and
– Contextual considerations.
These themes provide significant insights into the utilization of TPACK and its implications for ELT in the Indonesian context. The review highlights the necessity for ongoing professional development and deeper integration of technological tools in ELT, aiming to enhance both current and future educational processes. This chapter not only enriches the existing body of knowledge on TPACK’s implications for ELT but also projects future directions for enhancing pedagogical practices through strategic technology use, aiming to inform both current and future educational processes in Indonesia and similar multilingual settings.
