A New Article: Investigating the Role of Mindful, Meaningful, and Joyful Learning in Promoting Deep Learning in AI-based Language Learning

We are pleased to share our newly published article in AJAL. Thanks to all editors. Thanks, Indra Kusuma and Rahayu Budiarta 🙏

The article offers valuable insights into how different learning orientations contribute to deep learning in AI‑based language education. The article, Investigating the role of mindful, meaningful, and joyful learning in promoting deep learning in AI-based language learning, examines whether Mindful Learning (MiL), Meaningful Learning (MeL), and Joyful Learning (JL) predict deeper cognitive engagement among EFL students using AI tools.

Key Findings:

  • Qualitative data show strong relationships between MiL, MeL, JL, and Deep Learning (DL).
  • Quantitative SEM analysis reveals that Mindful and Meaningful learning significantly predict DL, while Joyful Learning does not emerge as a statistical predictor.
  • The study highlights four practical implications for designing AI‑enhanced learning environments that foster deeper, more reflective engagement.

This research contributes to the growing body of work exploring how AI can support pedagogical depth, learner agency, and intentional learning design in EFL contexts.
