Hi everyone,
Just a short post after a while! ^^ So, recently I was invited by English Score of British Council to share and learn together on a topic which is trending nowadays, I believe. I have been learning and sharing about Xtended Reality (XR) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) previously, in various media, platforms, programs, and agendas. As we know this topic is a buzz word today and in the context of education, especially English Language Education (ELT), AI has been considered highly – from many angles, like the positive and also negative sides.
So, I have shared a similar talk before this one, in the Indonesia Technology Enhanced Language Learning (iTELL) 2024 Conference on July in Salatiga and apparently it was a good session. Despite of the time limitation, as soo many ideas and things to discuss. So I was then invited again By Pak Colm from English Score to share the similar talk in a wider context in a webinar mode. Hundreds of educators from different parts of the world attended (like England, Russia, Poland, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia for sure, etc.), making it an interesting session. So, my talk covers the conceptual and the practical implications of Generative AI in the context of ELT. My highlight is that, at the moment, many research works and practical applications on GenAI have been done, proving that GenAI could assist learning better, providing that the pedagogy and technology are integrated effectively. The concerns today will be more on the AI literacy, competency, as well as academic integrity. From some sessions that I deliver, questions around these points are increasing and need to be addressed well by policy makers, teachers, students, and relevant parties.
Here are some information and pictures from the session, quoted from Pak Colm’s post.
I’ve known Made Hery Santosa for years, and I’ve always admired his expertise in ELT, whether through his webinars, research, or writing. Earlier this year, I saw him deliver this very talk as a plenary at the iTELL (Indonesian Technology Enhanced Language Learning) Conference in Salatiga – I loved it! It was insightful, fun, and practical, and I knew I wanted more teachers to benefit from Made’s expertise in this area.
During this professional development webinar, Made will showcase how using multimodal approaches—incorporating text, audio, video, and interactive elements—can make language teaching more engaging and effective. He’ll share real world examples and case studies on how integrating technology can support meaningful language learning, addressing diverse learning needs and enhancing language proficiency.
We’ll also explore the role of emerging technologies like Generative AI (GenAI) and Xtended Reality (XR) in transforming language education. Made will demonstrate how these tools enable personalised, adaptive learning, creating more relevant and impactful lessons. If you’re curious about how GenAI can help nurture learner-centred teaching, this session is for you. The talk will be delivered in English, and I assure you it’ll be both informative and entertaining. Plus, there’s an extended 30-minute Q&A where you can engage with Made directly and ask any questions you have.
Key Takeaways:
- Understand how to use multimodal approaches to enrich language learning
- Learn how to integrate Generative AI and XR into your teaching methods
- Case studies showcasing the benefits of these tools in real classrooms
- Gain practical tips on fostering a learner-centred, creative language environment
I highly recommend joining this session, it’s a fantastic opportunity to expand your teaching toolkit and stay up to date with the latest in English language education.
Here are some pictures from the session.
So, AI is developing rapidly, now we have Notebook LM, Gemini, Jenni, and many others. As educators, we need to integrate them seamlessly with effective and meaningful instructional design. We need to keep developing ourselves professionally (CPD) and consider literacy and competency in AI while clearly holding to academic integrity principles.
Thank you and I look forward to meeting you all and having great discussions and chats ^^
